So, I went to see Bandslam last night.
Mostly, my reaction can be summed up in this gif, thank you
shrewtee for making me aware of it:

But then there is this deeply thoughtful part of my heart that totally got tugged by this movie, and guys you should go see it. Or maybe you shouldn't, whatever. I just know that I'm glad I saw it, and I really really want to see it again - it is a genuinely good movie. (Dozens of professional movie-watchers actually agree with me, SUCK IT.)
Like, I mean, obviously I have a lot of very very earnest and totally unserious thoughts about how Vanessa Hudgens is so cute, she could power a small city with her giggle, and how sweet and subtle she was in the scenes she had (which were not many, but still !!!!!).
But I also have a lot of very very serious thoughts about, like, the fact that this is a high school comedy about how music is important, and it is so, so, so awesome that something like that exists in recent cinema. That is the core of the story. Music is important, and it means something, and it's diverse and comforting, and also on the side there is a love story and a coming-of-age story. I don't know, that just got me, and even as I was all stoked about Vanessa and her cute not-smiles and her character's darling misfit-kid ethos and how good she sounded singing the song that's not in the trailer, I sort of also just loved the whole rest of the movie, for its own sake.
Also, behind a cut, I just need to quote my favourite line of the whole movie, in all caps. My apologies, I realize it is obnoxious, but still: ( !!!!! )
My heart just melted. Seriously, you guys. ♥_♥
