Heyyyy guys. So it's 2011, which is going to freak me out once I go back to work and the date is different, I'm sure, but for now it feels like it's a pretty rad year.

[livejournal.com profile] girlsgunsfic, aka The Gay Ladycops Ficathon Of My Heart, happened at the end of 2010, and it was pretty much everything I hoped it would be, plus a little bit extra. Almost everyone who signed up wrote a story, and they are awesome. Some of them are really really really awesome, because a lot of the people who signed up are super talented, and I really want to do a recs post, but it feels weirdly like picking favourites, so I will not.

HOWEVER, I will say that the masterlist for the ficathon (minus a two pinch-hits that have been assigned but not written) is here, and that it is relevant to many of your interests, flist.

I wrote something that ended up being this long, involved monster of a story, and I'm kind of really proud of what it turned into. And now I kind of not-so-secretly OTP Beckett and Olivia Dunham, IDK.

If You Can't Stand The Heat, Castle/Fringe, Kate Beckett/Olivia Dunham, NC-17.
It is a story in which the FBI comes in to investigate one of Beckett's cases, and then Agent Dunham investigates Beckett's case, if you guys know what I mean, and I'm pretty confident that you do. Spoilers through to the end of Castle S2, no real spoilers for Fringe.
pirateygoodness: (festive: candy canes & deep thoughts)
IT'S TIME FOR A VERY WAREHOUSE 13 CHRISTMAS. (Or, IDK, whatever the episode is actually called. I SHALL BE CALLING IT THAT.) This episode delighted me so much - it was infused with such a sense of whimsy, without being heavy-handed, which is rare and kind of amazing for a winter TV special.

ALSO MYKA MADE THE CUTEST FACES, DID YOU GUYS SEE?

IN CASE YOU DID NOT, I TOOK THE LIBERTY OF PUTTING TOGETHER A FEW SCREENCAPS.

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. . ."
"What are you talking about?"
"It's the- it's from the beginning of Star Wars."
"This is a show about Christmas. It's not about space."
"They have Christmas in space."

under the cut )

Also, I would really really like to have a long conversation with ALL OF YOU discussing theories as to what Myka got everyone for Christmas. SOMEHOW I FEEL THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT. Also: did she get a present for H.G.? IF SO, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

PS, secret aside to [livejournal.com profile] fox1013: You should watch this episode. It is a Christmas special for a SyFy original series that features found families, cranky Jewish characters not really celebrating Christmas, and an adorable baby-genius tech geek with pink hair. ACTUALLY I JUST REALIZED, YOU WOULD LOVE CLAUDIA TO LITTLE PIECES. HOW HAVE I NOT TOLD YOU TO WATCH THIS ENTIRE SHOW SOONER.
pirateygoodness: (fringe: sexy imposter hair)
I can't even re: this week, you guys.

HOWEVER, let's discuss all the fabulous TV ladies that existed on TV this week, shall we?

First of all, Fringe. FRINGE. Mostly my thoughts on this week's episode are a giant love letter to Anna Torv's acting skills and also her face, and I doubt that will change in future.

spoilers for fringe 3.03 )

I also really enjoyed Castle this week, if only for spoilers )

I'm also still in love with Bones, although I've never really been fannish about it. I was saying to one of my friends the other day, I always think of it as a show that I'm pretty ambivalent about, but I've been keeping up with every single episode for like six seasons now. So I guess I'm not that ambivalent.

Anyway, Temperance Brennan is still my homegirl, even if she's not at all secretly a lesbian, and I'm all over this season so far.

I'm still behind on Gossip Girl, but [livejournal.com profile] fivewhatfive tells me it's gay, so I'm looking forward to it.
pirateygoodness: (fringe: no one on the corner have)
So, okay. Here are my ~thoughts on Fringe S3 so far. Lots and lots of pictures, and spoilers for Fringe 3.01 and 3.02. Also, as a disclaimer: I am really really tired from work, and I am crossing my fingers that this doesn't make me seem like an incoherent crazy person. I AM PRETTY SURE IT DOESN'T, BUT JUST IN CASE.

twice the olivia dunhams, etc. )

Anyway, let's take a moment to objectify Anna Torv, hmm? because objectifying anna torv is always relevant. )

Also, hey! Gay suits for Astrid!

under the cut )

ALSO ALSO, this season appears to be about yet more unsubtle colour symbolism, and I'm just going to go ahead and predict the future right now. Based entirely on nothing, I can only assume that there will be a third universe at the end of this season, and IT WILL BE YELLOW THERE. Maybe red and blue will have to work together to make purple fight yellow, BECAUSE BOTH UNIVERSES ARE DIFFERENT, BUT THEY BOTH HAVE "BEING INTERESTED IN NOT BEING ANNIHILATED" IN COMMON.
pirateygoodness: (gg: one of my top 3 vanessas)
So oh my god you guys, [livejournal.com profile] femslash10 totally happened!

I wrote good girl (loves horses and her boyfriend too) (Legend of the Seeker, Cara/Kahlan, PG-13) for [livejournal.com profile] lurkete

And oh man oh man, I got the BEST STORY EVER from my writer. (Who, you know, is on my flist, so I am not shocked that it's fantastic.)

starting fires (Gossip Girl, Blair/Vanessa, R), by [livejournal.com profile] dirty_diana.

Guys, it's AMAZING. Honest-to-god awesome. It is 100% exactly every single thing that I love about Blair and Vanessa, and if you do not love Blair/Vanessa an unhealthy amount, like I do, IT'S STILL THE GREATEST. Seriously seriously seriously, it's wonderful. EVERYONE GO READ IT AND TELL HER SHE'S THE MOST BRILLIANT.

Other stories I loved:

you say you want a revolution (Mean Girls, Janis/Regina, PG-13), by [livejournal.com profile] ms_chak

When These Walls Fall (Legend of the Seeker, Cara/Kahlan, PG-13) by [livejournal.com profile] botherd

Anyway. Now that my recs post is out of the way, I'm going to go study and definitely not write anything related to Ridiculous Fringe Lesbianverse.
pirateygoodness: (fringe: & ladies shouldnt be messed with)
+ I found this video via TED via someone on Facebook, but it's honestly one of the most succinct, articulate ways I've seen to describe the basic philosophy of Just Being Fucking Nice To People. But with science? The Empathic Civilization, by Jeremy Rifkin.

+ I feel like maybe the internet was busy watching the Emmys last night, so in case you were one of those people: my ridiculous Blake/Olivia is up. The primer to the ridiculous, only-in-our-heads 'verse that this goes with is here at [livejournal.com profile] thrace_'s LJ, but it really doesn't matter which you read first.

+ I finished Batwoman: Elegy a few days ago, on an absolutely spot-on rec from [livejournal.com profile] mimesere and omgomgomgggggg ♥Kate Kane♥. I want to read all about everything she does, ever. SHE'S LIKE BATMAN, EXCEPT I'M NOT BORED BECAUSE SHE'S A GIRL. And also she's not a BIG WHINY LOSER. PLUS she wears suits and fights crime and bangs chicks, NOT THAT I HAVE A TYPE OR ANYTHING.

My only problem is that I need like, a very easy-to-read flowchart of exactly which issues I should read next and why. Figuring out comics is a challenge for me.

+ Somehow, this (again, from comicallyvintage, IT AND [livejournal.com profile] oxymoronassoc ARE HALF MY TUMBLR I SWEAR) needs to be some kind of AU. I'm thinking Bleighton, but Disney could totally work, too. Get on that, universe.
pirateygoodness: (fringe: no one on the corner have)
LADIES AND OTHER LADIES, Selena Gomez on her new girlfriend Leighton Meester.

When I started on the movie, I was just getting to know my co-stars Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy but we've become so close! They've experienced much more than me because they're older so we have long talks and share stories. We're inseparable! I feel better, like I've learned a lot about myself.

. . .discuss.

Oh, and also, I have a special treat for all of you. As I may or may not have mentioned several hundred dozen times, [livejournal.com profile] thrace_ and I have concocted a ridiculous alternate universe in which Olivia Dunham hooks up with CIA Agent Blake Lively, and whatever it's going to be awesome.

The embarrassingly long fic that goes with that is coming in the next week or so, but until then, have a ficlet.

every new beginning, Fringe/Gossip Girl RPF AU, Olivia Dunham/Agent Blake Lively, PG-13, 368 words.

The first time is in Prague. )
pirateygoodness: (lots: feelings r hard.)
1. I wrote Fringe fic, you guys. It was really scary, because I am weird about ~jumping into new fandoms~ like that, but now that I have written that story, I feel way better about writing more! MAYBE LATER I WILL.

Oscar Lima India Victor India Alpha
Spoilers for the S2 finale. Olivia/Alt!Olivia, NC-17

Also, everyone should tell [livejournal.com profile] fivewhatfive to stop being so unreasonable about Anna Torv, because she TOTALLY WATCHED THE FINALE and then coined the phrase "reverse Hannah Montana wig" to describe Alt!Olivia, and that is amazing/exactly what it is. I like when she says hilarious stuff about things that I love.

2. People who have watched Fringe for more than a month: is there a femslash comm for that fandom? Would it not be rad if someone started one? I mean, probably not me, because I'd name it something like "oliviasgaypassiton" or "chicksdoingit_fringe" or something equally tasteful, but whatever. My point is, all I could find was [livejournal.com profile] olivia_astrid, and is there another?

3. When I get back, there is TOTALLY going to be a Legend of the Seeker Texts From Last Night challenge, because apparently the consensus is "that would be awesome, also your mom." Some of the people who answered "your mom" had better mean "your mom and I are going to participate," or this is going to be a smallll challenge.

Incidentally, I am fascinated by the OVERWHELMING RESPONSE to my "who would be on top" poll compared to the number of people who answered my TFLN challenge poll. It's like some of you have opinions on gay sex, or something.

4. BRB, GOING TO COMIC-CON. See you all on Monday, if I don't get a chance to post before then. (Although, OBVIOUSLY, if you are one of the people I email with on a regular basis, then GOOD LUCK GETTING A BREAK FROM THAT, LOSERS.) My goal for the weekend is to ask for and receive a hug from as many stormtroopers as possible.
pirateygoodness: (lots: smoke a lil weed/drink a lil bit)
The epic Cara/Dahlia - the one I've been working on steadily since the finale - is so close to being done. The draft is written, and I need to give it a few rigorous final edits, but it's coming perilously soon. It'll go up either this weekend, or the Tuesday after.

In the meantime, some of you expressed an interest in seeing my writing mix for this story.

(Front and back covers by [livejournal.com profile] thrace_, who is far more talented with pretty pictures than I will ever be.)

and it will all happen again )
pirateygoodness: (text: dancing or explosions)
Okay. So, in between writing my Cara/Dahlia post-finale epic (SERIOUSLY IT IS BIG BANG LENGTH, WHAT HAPPENED) and being traumatized by Wizard's First Rule, I've been watching a lot of TV. Specifically, I've been watching a lot of Fringe.

I know there's a chunk of my flist that watches this show religiously, and from time to time I see posts discussing why it's so awesome - for instance, [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria wrote a very detailed pitch for the show that actually, like, explains what it is about with clips, and every so often [livejournal.com profile] captaincatapult and a couple other friends of mine will picspam this show. And I would love to be all, YES. YOU, FRIENDS, WITH YOUR ARGUMENTS AND YOUR THOUGHTS, YOU HAVE SWAYED ME AND NOW I LIKE THE THINGS THAT YOU LIKE. But actually, I'm really really shallow, and all it took was this post from [livejournal.com profile] thrace_, in which she mentioned that maybe Fringe was doing a film-noir episode featuring the hot female lead as a 1940s-era private eye who wears suspenders and has a Boston accent.

I downloaded it, sight unseen, and thought to myself, HMM. ANNA TORV, YOUR SWAGGER IS INTRIGUING.

Anyway, I'm suddenly finished the first season, and let me tell you guys: Anna Torv's swagger is not any less enticing in GLORIOUS HIGH DEF. And because I am interested in coaxing all of my friends into liking the things I like, so that we can like them together, I have composed a picspam.

under the cut! )

So, yeah. FRINGE.

For the sake of full disclosure, I remember watching the first four episodes of this show when it aired and really, really hating them, because I was watching for the sci-fi mythology - it involves a fair few disturbing/gruesome CGI effects, and ridiculous pseudoscientific explanations for what they are and how they happen. If you actually try to pay attention and reconcile any of Walter's dialogue with real science, your head will explode, but I find that if I just sort of nod along and only half-listen, it's fine. Coming back to the show framed as "it's about Olivia, who is awesome, everything else is background" has really helped me love it more.

If - hypothetically - you loved the same elements of Seeker that I did? You would probably enjoy Fringe.

ALSO, IT IS A JJ ABRAMS SHOW, SO GET ON THE TRAIN WHILE THERE ARE ONLY TWO SEASONS TO CATCH UP ON, BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT BY SEASON FOUR IT'S GOING TO MAKE NO FUCKING SENSE AND THEY'RE ALL GOING TO BE IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE STARING AT RAMBALDI SYMBOLS AND VAUGHN WILL COME BACK FROM THE DEAD AND THERE WILL BE A POLAR BEAR. At least, that is what skimming posts about other JJ Abrams shows on my flist has led me to believe.
pirateygoodness: (lots: beware the jabberwock my son)
Apologies for not ladyspamming last week's episode. Such was the way of the universe. Also I'm kind of really devastated about where they took the Dahlia storyline, because I loved her - I'm finding that the easiest way to deal is to not discuss it on the internet. SO.

Ladyspam 2.22: It's Over, Feelings For Everyone!

spoilers for legend of the seeker 2.22, 'tears' )

In conclusion: thanks, show. You weren't rad 100% of the time, but when you were awesome, you were pretty much the awesomest.
pirateygoodness: (lots: my heart wants you in breeches)
Sorry, cats and kittens: real life > picspamming fabulous ladies this weekend. The ladyspam will go up around midweek.

In the meantime, feel free to use this entry for ~discussion purposes. Spoilers for episode 2.21 (but NOT 2.22) are welcome in the comments.

Oh, also, in case you guys do not follow [livejournal.com profile] scurvyknavery? I have written fic. Lots of fic:

Within My Heart There Is Another Heart, aka Babydaddy, with [livejournal.com profile] thrace_ (Cara/Kahlan, NC-17)

Clever Metaphors To Do With Archery, (WMHTIAH-verse, Cara/Kahlan, R)

NEXT WEEK ON LEGEND OF THE SEEKER: SERIOUSLY WTF THERE ARE LIKE EIGHTY DIFFERENT THINGS GOING ON IN THAT PROMO.
pirateygoodness: (lots: my heart wants you in breeches)
So, you know that episode that every show ever set in high school has? The one where two characters with sexual tension are partnered up for a school project where they have to raise an egg baby/take care of a doll/whatever?

That is the Cara/Kahlan subplot of this episode. I SPENT THE WHOLE TIME GIGGLING AND CLAPPING.

Legend of the Seeker Ladyspam 2.19: A Magical Night in the Meat Locker Grotto

spoilers for legend of the seeker 2.19, 'extinction' )

NNSDKFJLKDSJLJ ALSO THE PROMO FOR NEXT WEEK IS SO TOE-CURLINGLY AWESOME LOOKING I DO NOT EVEN HAVE WORDS. HERE ARE SOME SELECTED CAPS. WHAT THE EVERLOVING OMG THIS SHOW IS TOO GOOD.

pirateygoodness: (lots: my heart wants you in breeches)
Alright, ladies and gents. You know how [livejournal.com profile] thrace_ and I have been talking, for probably the past couple of months, about Cara and Kahlan and how it would be awesome if Kahlan got magic gay pregnant and had a baby and they raised it together and ran around Aydindril being domestic and having sex on lots of very expensive furniture, and maybe we should write fic about it?

Yeah, so it happened. And it's coming to a [livejournal.com profile] scurvyknavery near you, TOMORROW NIGHT. BE READY.

In the meantime, we made you all some mixtapes. Like, in case you wanted to download them to get pumped for Babydaddy Cara: No Seriously We Actually Wrote It. There are two halves to the mix, and they make a sentence.

'there are metaphors' )

Once you've downloaded that, please go snag the sister mix at [livejournal.com profile] thrace_'s LJ, ...and there is fisting.

WE ARE ALL CLASS AND LITTLE ELSE.
pirateygoodness: (lots: kahlan = regina + magic)
Uh, so this episode was kind of a let-down after last week, unless you're like really jazzed about the intricacies of Zedd's inner mind. Which - I am not, dudes, sorry.

Legend of the Seeker Ladyspam 2.17: Needs Moar Chicks

spoilers for legend of the seeker 2.17, 'vengeance' )

NEXT WEEK: MORD'SITH! MAYBE IT'S A CARA EPISODE?
pirateygoodness: (lots: sometimes i like to hurt people)
So, this episode managed to meet, then COMPLETELY SURPASS my wildest, most fanciful expectations regarding Cara and Kahlan. As such, this recap will be 99% borderline-coherent flailing about how gay these two are, and 1% L Word jokes. That's pretty much all I've got left.

Legend of the Seeker 2.16 Ladyspam: The One With The Girlfight

spoilers for legend of the seeker 2.16, 'desecrated' )
