pirateygoodnessOH WOW. OH WOW OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. This clip from Bandslam is KILLING ME. Mostly the first ten seconds of it, but whatever.
IDK, IDK. Possibly I am the only one in this part of the internet who listened to Reel Big Fish and Sublime and Mustard Plug growing up and thought they were the bees knees, but that is just the cutest, most earnestly teenage three seconds of film I have ever seen and I love it.
Because, like, here is the thing. In high school, I was the vaguely punk rock kid who also did marching band. This little, like, awkward-gangly-boy/sullen-eyelinered-girl "hey, have you heard of ska?/I like your NOFX t-shirt" friendship-with-music-as-a-proxy thing that seems to be a theme in this movie is KILLING ME. THIS WAS ME AND HALF MY FRIENDS IN HIGH SCHOOL. THIS IS A TINY HOLLYWOOD MICROCOSM of actual dorky losers being awkward and weird and I want to just, like, curl up next to it. I am so pleased with pop culture for creating a movie like this at all, basically, and it needs to be out yesterdayish.
Of course there is also this Honor Society video, which is cute but also gives away half the plot of the movie. Having watched it, I am just more excited, but if you think knowing how a high school movie love story goes down will ruin the experience for you, I'd hold off. (THAT SAID, there is a series of clips in that video that I am DYING to go !!!!! over with someone, SO IF THAT SOMEONE IS YOU, let me know.)
(Also, I did see Harry Potter last night, but my reactions to everything in that series are so intensely personal, I do not know if I want to talk about it with strangers on the internet.)
