Warehouse 13 is back! My sweet, dorky, awkward show, with Myka and her amazing gay shirt collection, and Pete (who has grown on me, but only when he's with Myka), and Claudia and everyone else, omg.
This season there is also Agent Ashmore (sorry, ~Steve Jinks), who is apparently a thing? I find him hilarious and endearing, in a bland, Ashmore sort of way. Time shall tell, but I am pretty optimistic.

SO GUYS CAN WE PLEASE DISCUSS HOW THIS EPISODE TOOK US ON THE GLITTER TRAIN RIGHT TO LESBIANTOWN, POPULATION: MYKA AND H.G.? CAN WE PLEASE? BECAUSE THAT'S THE EPISODE I WAS WATCHING AND IT WAS AWESOME.
Anyway. Previously on W13: last season happened. Currently on Warehouse 13: Pete has a ~new partner named Steve Jinks. There is some ~tension~ between them. Claudia is awesome and adorable. Artie is Artie. Leena's hair looks wonderful this season, and she is still Leena. THERE IS A CRIME. AN ARTIFACT CRIME. It is happening conveniently in Denver, and it conveniently involves PROBABLY BOOKS!
IDK IF YOU GUYS REMEMBER, BUT MYKA'S DAD OWNS A BOOKSTORE. IN COLORADO.

Pete goes to visit her, and harass her for helpful theories/rejoining the warehouse. Myka is all, PS: I QUIT. Pete is adorably antagonistic, and oddly I am finding their bickering just the most endearing thing in the universe this week. I think it's Joanne Kelly's fond-but-exasperated faces, or something very deep about my own psyche, but whatever, it is charming. Pete makes inappropriate Shakespeare jokes, and Myka looks like she wants to choke him yet she misses him yet she loves him like a brother yet maybe she could choke him just a little bit.
Just - come on, Myka. If I had quit and left you there, and you were looking for an artifact about football or porn, I'd help you.

Anyway. Myka agrees to help, because she loves both books and puzzles and is Myka. I - cannot describe how attractive I find her in this shot, especially the ones in the bottom left corner. It is a surprising amount, and I know she is supposed to be all dressed-down and frumpy, but all I see here is "awkward, bookish lesbian who looks good in jeans," and it is doing things to me. Pants, etc, unf.

Pete does this awesome thing, where he dangles a case right in front of her and then is all, "OHHHH, but you QUIT, so I guess you don't want to solve this amazing case. Anyway, we'll have fun. Thanks for the cool book, enjoy your life." Which, okay, is kind of a jerk move, and is the worst sort of passive-aggressive. But it works within their dynamic and the way they relate to each other emotionally, and also it leads to Myka looking torn yet exasperated yet torn. Which I enjoy.

Anyway, Agent Ashmore almost dies, and Myka runs to the rescue and has to ~give him mouth to mouth~, and then they start working together as a team.
I enjoy that they have kept Myka's gay leather jacket collection as a character this season, by the way. I appreciate them very much.

PS: in the spirit of my overwhelming renewed affection for Myka and Pete's friendship, I need to cap this. And their faces. HE IS HER GROSS YOUNGER BROTHER. SHE IS HISGAY NERDY BIG SISTER. TOGETHER THEY FIGHT CRIME. HEARTS ALL OVER.

ANYWAY, W/E, THEY SOLVE THE CASE AND EVERYTHING IS AWESOME. PS: the FBI agent who is Ted Mosby's ex-girlfriend Victoria is ALSO EVIL.
NOW FOR THE GOOD PARTS.
Embarrassing true story: when I saw H.G., I literally gasped in delight. I was spoiled enough to know that Helena was going to be back sometime in S3, but I had no idea it was going to be in the first episode. GUYS I APPRECIATE HER. AND HER FACE. AND ALSO HOW SHE'S WEARING THAT REALLY FLATTERING OUTFIT AGAIN, WITH THE SHIRT AND THE PANTS AND THE HAIR.

And then oh, oh, oh. Myka. The way she almost tears up, and then is angry and then hurt and then this SWIRLING TEMPEST OF EMOTION and H.G. wants so badly to apologize for something she can't actually apologize for, but also give her advice so that she has a happy life. God.

Plus that face, okay? That one in the first cap, where she's so nervous about touching Helena, but she's going to anyway, DELICIOUS.

I also love the way Helena is about being imprisoned - all trying to be arrogant, but in a deeply hurt and ashamed sort of way, and OH MY GOD THEY ARE THEY GAYEST HOMOS. Plus, dude. Dude. Myka's little gasp when H.G. disappears - like being punched in the chest.

Basically, I love that scene for being beautiful, but also for being this moment where Myka and H.G. suck you completely into their vortex of messy gay feelings and repressed sexual tension and you totally forget that Mrs. Frederic is even in the room, let alone watching. Possibly you say to your television, "MAKE OUT"?
Anyway, Myka goes back to the Warehouse with Mrs. Frederic, like a badass. For the occasion, she has donned what appears to be an oversized men's coat, and let her hair get ever-so-slightly wavier. Looking emotionally vulnerable and hugging Claudia and smiling at Pete!

I know this scene is mostly about Myka's looks of escalating hopeful vulnerability, as she reunites with people who remind her more and more of her daddy issues, and that is pretty much what I noticed when I watched.
However, on second viewing: does this not sort of look like it could be the shot at the end of the opening credits for a show called Myka's Angels or something, about a wealthy heiress with a ~shadowy past~ who runs a band of badass, crimefighting Strong Female Characters (plus Pete)?
Just me? IDK, I think it's the coat.

Anyway. Thank you for accompanying me on that magical journey through the episode. I am so thrilled to have this show back in new episodes. There is just something about it - I love it sort of the way I love Seeker, for its earnest, balls-out geekery and delightful found-family dynamics. If you are not a person who watches it yet, you totally should be.
