Clarification for the confused: this is the episode that's due to air this Sunday, Feb 12. Due to a spectacularly serendipitous iTunes error, it was released for 100% legal download in Canada yesterday, well in advance of its scheduled airdate. If you are able to access this episode legally either on TV, Showcase.ca, or iTunes, I would encourage you all to do so when it becomes available.

I am seriously considering taking up watching Xena, as we did not get that TV channel when I was young and impressionable, and I feel like this is a television experience I would enjoy. I think I require advice, though? Like, if I start watching season one will I get it? Is there a point at which things suddenly get really awesome and gay that I should start from?

Also also that Bo/Lauren prompt list is IMMENSE and giving me so many ideas that ultimately lead me to want to make super-inappropriate LJ polls to answer questions like WHO IS TOPPIER? etc. THESE TWO, STILL MY FAVOURITES.)

Not the hugest fan of this week's episode, for obvious needs-more-women-related reasons and not to get into gender politics too much, but so obviously written by a dude, wow. A picspam isn't happening this week, mostly because I don't have a ton of time, but still - some things I loved: a short list.

Okay, so. There is this show. Lost Girl. You may have heard me mention it, uh, a few times.

Anyway, even though the show is Canadian-made and filmed in Canada, it's being picked up by SyFy, who is starting to air the first season this week (starting Monday! January 16th!). And so, for my ~international friends~ (aka: everyone), I thought this might be helpful.

Lost Girl: A Primer For the Curious

Anyway. This show, especially in the first season, is nominally about Bo ~finding herself~ and learning about the Fae, and I actually find the mythology pretty interesting if a little ridiculous at times. But it's also got a lot of sweetness to it, and really nice elements of found family and friends supporting each other and being sarcastic-yet-helpful, featuring people who say "sorry" and "about" in exactly the correct way with no accent, which is why I love it ever so much. I think a lot of you guys would love it, too.

There are a lot of comparisons to Buffy kicking around now that it's starting to air on SyFy, and I see the temptation, because there are a lot of similar elements - it's an ensemble genre show, with medium-to-okay quality special effects, featuring a confident female lead and her found family, and it does its best to find elements of levity and humor within its own ridiculous supernatural mythology. It's a much more grown-up show, though, and the dynamics are very different. I like them both, but for different reasons, and so while the overlap is there, the feel to each show is different - I wouldn't go in expecting to love one for the same reasons you love the other, or to love Lost Girl just because you liked Buffy.

That said: January 16. SyFy. SIT DOWN WITH YOUR LOVED ONES/NEWBORNS/CATS/DOGS/GRANDPARENTS, AND ENJOY THE MAGIC.

2. HEY SPEAKING OF FIC, IF YOU GUYS WANT TO GO TO A HAPPY PLACE FULL OF RAINBOWS AND SUNSHINE AND HOMOSEXUALITY, bo_lauren is having an AWESOME FICATHON. IT IS ALSO FOR ICONS AND FANVIDS AND IDK YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF INTERPRETIVE DANCE, WHATEVER YOUR JAM MIGHT BE.



At the very least, go leave some prompts, goddamn.

3. Oh god, time off is the best. Planning to play tons more Skyrim and write a lot of really embarrassing fic about Bo and Lauren making cookies and having winter hat fetishes and calling each other pretty.

1. Without getting into too much detail about RL: NOVEMBER IS STRESSFUL. I do not condone it.

2. Still kind of really, really dismayed at the direction Community has been going in the last two weeks. BRITTA PERRY IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL, SHOW, BUT YOU HAVE TO WRITE GAY CHARACTERS WHO ARE NOT SEXUAL PREDATORS OR WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO BREAK UP.

3. Also continuing to watch Castle, which I am enjoying. I am not 100% on board with what they're doing with Stana Katic's hair this season (I like the buns, but do not approve of this scrunchy, over-curled business when she has it down, GUYS DID SHE REALLY GET A PERM LIKE THE INTERNET KEEPS SAYING?), but I do enjoy her "Oh, Castle" faces, and also all of the feelings she has whenever Castle is in Mortal Peril.

4. Explain to me how big a deal the premiere of Breaking Dawn is going to be. My friend and I want to go and cackle at the awkward normativity and crappy writing/also Kristen Stewart has the best face omg, but the only day we're both available is opening night. Am I going to have to, like, preorder tickets?

5. Predictably: does anyone want to talk Bo/Lauren with me? I am trying to write fic, and I find that this works best when I have someone to bounce things off of, and INEXPLICABLY my usual suspects (coughfivewhatfivecough) have taken an IRRATIONAL DISLIKE to Dr. Hotpants McInappropriateTouching von Awkward. I JUST WANT TO DISCUSS LAUREN AND HER HAIR. AND HER FEELINGS. AND HER EXCELLENT COLLECTION OF GAY SHIRTS. AND HOW SHE WAS PROBABLY TOPPY AS HELL WHILE SHE WAS DATING NADIA, AND POSSIBLY ALSO TIMES SHE COULD BE TOPPY WITH BO AND POSSIBLY ALSO PORN. IDK.
